SANDY POINT QUARRY

ABOUT SANDY POINT QUARRY

ABOUT SANDY POINT QUARRY

Sandy Point Quarry is situated on the southern side of the Georges River in southern Sydney, approximately 10 kilometres from the Liverpool CBD. It is located in Sutherland Shire close to the municipality’s western border with Liverpool City Council.

It was established in the late 1950s and used by Sutherland Shire Council and other operators.  The site had been extensively cleared when CSR ReadyMix took over management of the quarry in 1979.

CSR ReadyMix ceased quarrying in 1998 largely due to extensive vandalism that was occurring at the site.

Benedict Industries re-started the quarry in 2010 after responding to an EOI issued by the Department of Lands.

Since taking over management of the site, Benedict Industries has completed a range of programs to minimise or prevent environmental impacts from the quarry.

Benedict has enjoyed working with the local community and as part of our commitment to you, will post all operational and community updates to this website.

If you have any questions, please call Quarry Manager  Rod Holz on 0438 336 891 or email him

Blast Notification

Good Morning,

Please be advised that that due to bad weather over the coming days, we have moved the blast from the 9th April to the 19th April.

Monitoring will be conducted at:

  1. The Sandy Point Community Centre

  2. 13A Carinya Road Picnic Point

At the time of the blast a representative from the blast contractor Orica, will be located at the closest resident monitor. Their role will be to record empirical ‘felt’ effects as well as residents comments on their experience for ongoing analysis.

As always, it is our goal to continue to keep the noticeable impact of our blasts as minimal on our neighbours and welcome any feedback you may have.

I will notify as soon as possible should there be a need to change the date or time of the blast (e.g. in the event of inclement weather conditions or other operational delays) as we want to continue our operational policy of blasting only in ideal conditions.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me on 0438 336 891.

Sandy Point Helping the Local Army Battalion

Benedict’s Sandy Point Quarry were proud to support the

4th/3rd Battalion, Royal NSW Regiment at Sutherland with a donation of sandstone. The sandstone and dedication plaque formed the centre piece at yesterday’s Welcome to Country ceremony acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, the Gweagal People of the Dharawal Nation, and pays respect to the Aboriginal and Torress Strait Islander people who have contributed to the defence of Australia.

Working together
in the true spirit of community

Using a range of products donated from our Sandy Point Quarry, the Design Group landscaping team have been rejuvenating the grounds and gardens at Hammondville Public School and dramatically improving the drainage around the basketball courts.  And the work won’t stop there. Over the next twelve months, a large sand-pit with a beautiful Sandy Point sandstone perimeter will be constructed for the primary children.

Partnering to save koalas
with Symbio Wildlife Park

Benedict Industries is partnering with Symbio Wildlife Park in an effort to increase food stocks for our endangered national treasure.

With Symbio bringing the koala know-how, Benedict is providing the Helensburgh-based zoo with land at our Sandy Point and Menangle quarries, as well as donating $5000 towards purchasing infant gum trees (tube stock) and constructing a protective fence (below) to stop wildlife from damaging the crops.
